An Honest Review of Club Med's All-Inclusive Ski Concept - Club Med Valmorel Chalets

Nestled in the heart of the Alps, Club Med Valmorel Chalets are an elevated all-inclusive ski resort option that is tied to their traditional resort. The chalets offer a compelling concept that takes the stress out of a mountain holiday—lift passes, lessons, meals, and entertainment are all woven into a single seamless experience. The added bonus is that instead of dealing with the hustle of the main resort, chalet guests can retire to a private space. The chalets have their own private bar and guests can have dinner in the comfort of their chalet three times during their stay.

The setting is nothing short of spectacular, with the kind of dramatic mountain scenery you expect in the heart of the French Alps. The accommodations are well-appointed and thoughtfully designed, offering a warm, cozy retreat after a long day on the mountain. Each room in our chalet had its own bathroom, and there was the added bonus of a large laundry room.

The Sweet Spot for Family Travel

For families in particular, the property delivers in a meaningful way: the Kids' Club and Baby Club are well-appointed with caring staff. This feature gives parents the rare gift of uninterrupted ski time while younger children are entertained, engaged, and well-cared for.

Evenings at the property are equally well-considered, with entertainment that keeps the energy going after the lifts close, a spa that provides genuine recovery for tired legs, and a dining program that punches above the weight you might expect from an all-inclusive format. The main lodge, in particular, serves as a lively and beautifully executed hub for the resort experience.

The ski instruction partnership program run by ESF stands out as one of the resort’s true highlights. The instructors are skilled, patient, and clearly passionate about the mountain—whether you're placing a nervous first-timer in their hands or looking to refine technique as an advanced skier, the quality of teaching is consistently high.

Best time of year to go to Club Med Valmorel Chalets

That said, there is an important caveat prospective guests should understand before booking: staffing levels during peak weeks are a real and noticeable issue. The resort has approximately 60 chalets, yet during the festive and New Year's period, only 16 staff members were servicing all of them while operating at full capacity. The contrast with the main lodge—which felt well-staffed but still overwhelmed during this peak week, made the gap in chalet service all the more apparent. In practice, this translated to rooms not always being cleaned on schedule, guest requests going unanswered or getting lost in miscommunication, and a general sense that the chalet experience wasn't receiving the same attention as the lodge. One particularly frustrating example: after explicitly confirming in both writing and verbally that we had arranged alternative transportation and did not need a taxi, a driver still knocked on our door at 6 am. These are not insurmountable problems, but during a premium holiday they are friction points that shouldn’t exist.

The good news is that the fix is largely a matter of timing. Staff at the property themselves acknowledged that during off-peak winter weeks, only 10 to 15 chalets are occupied—with the same staffing complement in place. That ratio makes for an entirely different, and far more attentive experience.

For this reason, I would recommend this resort enthusiastically to clients who have flexibility in their travel dates and can avoid the festive season and spring break weeks. The all-inclusive ski concept is genuinely appealing, the setting and accommodations are excellent, and the family programming is among the best I've seen at a mountain property. Book it for a quieter January or February week and it has the makings of a truly special trip. Families with young children, intermediate to advanced skiers looking to improve, and guests who want the convenience of having everything handled for them will find a great deal to love here—just time it right.

Value Added Club Med All-Inclusive Ski Portfolio

For clients who are drawn to the all-inclusive ski concept, Club Med operates across 13+ resorts in the French Alps alone, with additional properties in the Italian and Swiss Alps. Most of these properties are traditional lodge-style hotels. The value proposition across all of them is worth spelling out clearly for US-based clients: lift passes, ski lessons with accredited instructors, unlimited food and open bar, childcare, and entertainment are all included in a single price.

When you stack that against the true cost of a DIY ski trip to a comparable US resort like Aspen or Park City—where lift passes alone can run $200+ per person per day, ski school is a significant additional expense, and on-mountain dining—the Club Med model represents great value.
